Click an outfit above to see more details about it!  :)

This past month was crazy busy for me!  Some of the highlights include:

* I've hosted my very first giveaway here on the blog!  It ends tonight, so make sure you enter!

* My buddy Hanna of The Wardrobe Challenge and I did an international fatshion swap and we've become fast (and fabulous!) friends.  She's in London, so I might have to visit!

* I also did a fatshion swap with the lovely Hannah of An Old Story.  We're pretty much style twins, so it's been fun!  We're working on doing another one, so check back for that.  :)

* We've made a some fun DIY projects, like a cozy cape, polka dot tights, a girly necklace, and sparkly flats

* I expanded the social networking of the blog to include Twitter, Facebook, Bloglovin', and Tumblr.  Make sure you check them out!

* I also made my very first YouTube video!  I'm going to have to make another one soon, it was a lot of fun.  :)

* I started a new semester at school, and am taking fun classes that I'm actually interested in!  Although I'm not getting much sleep, I think it'll be worth it.

So, that's my January in a nutshell.  It was a pretty good start to the year, but between school and the blog (and lets be honest, perhaps a bit too much Tumblr), by life is getting more hectic by the day!  :)

And thank you to my awesome readers for making the first month of DIY FATSHION a success!  :)  I appreciate you!

How was your January?  Did you make any new fatshion friends?  Any fatshion successes you want to share?  :)

cardigan, belt - thrifted / dress, bag, boots - Target /
leggings - Old Navy / scarf, necklace, ring - Forever21 /
earrings - Marc by Marc Jacobs

So, if you read the title of this post, then you pretty much know how my week has been.  Boring reading for my classes, stressful shipping issues for school art supplies, and perhaps a little bit too much Tumbling have made for late nights with little sleep.  I think my body is actually beginning to adapt to nights of ~4 hours of sleep.  Probably not the best thing, I'm assuming?  Meh.  School won't last forever, and then I can go back to being a normal person.  Or at least that's the plan!

To compound the week's awesomeness (NOT), we've been having cold, wet mornings that successfully trick me into thinking that the chill will last all day.  Apparently, though, it doesn't last and by noon I'm dying from the heat of my over-enthusiastic bundling.  By Friday,  however, smartypants me finally wisened up to the weather sneakiness with smart layering. (It ONLY took me all week..)  My layertastic dressing skills inspired me to wear this super warm cardigan (that I will never get rid of) and newly acquired scarf over a summery dress with leggings.  I think it's cute, in a grandpa-meets-girlish kinda way.  :)

What are your tricky-weather layering tips?  Do you have a favorite layering go-to piece that you can't imagine living without?

dress - Rodarte for Target / shoes - Guess / belt - thrifted /
necklace - DIY'ed below

Don't you hate it when you order something gorgeous online, but when it arrives, it doesn't quite meet your expectations?  It's awful, right?!  Recently, I experienced this when I ordered a beautiful Lauren Conrad golden flower necklace from Kohls.  When it showed up on my doorstep, I was surprised to see that it was much shorter than I anticipated!  Like, I-could-barely-wear-it-without-choking short.  But this wasn't my first experience with a too-short necklace.  I also have a vintage costume pearl necklace that's gorgeous, but that I couldn't wear.  So not wanting to waste two fabulous necklaces, I got creative.  Want to see my clever and super-easy solution?  Click through for the details!  :)

(And make sure to read all the way through for a special announcement!  It may or may not be about a GIVEAWAY... ;)

FATSHION SWAP WITH... Hanna of The Wardrobe Challenge

jacket, tunic, scarf - from Hanna / leggings - Old Navy /
shoes - DSW / bag - Target / ring - Forever21

As you might remember, a few weeks ago on Tumblr I mentioned doing a fatshion exchange, and the beautiful Hanna (aka fattyschallenge) from The Wardrobe Challenge messaged me about participating.  You guys, I can't tell you how excited I was when I got her message.  She's super nice, artsy like me, Finnish, and um, FABULOUS.  So, like the good fashion-swappers that we are, we exchanged pictures of things we wanted to clear out of our closets, then made our picks!

The jacket, tunic, and scarf that I wore today were a few of my picks.  You all know how much I love gray and blue and zippers and skulls and POCKETS.  Seriously y'all, in this outfit I definitely felt like some of Hanna's "London Cool" rubbed off on me!  Oh yeah, did I forget to mention she's in London?  You guys, LONDON.  So not only is she super stylish and fabulous, but she's also really, really nice to have sent me a giant package filled with all sorts of awesome goodies all the way from England.  Her package is still en route to her, but I hope she loves everything I sent as much as I love everything she sent.  Thank you, Hanna!!  :)

See?  Just another example of the genuinely nice people you can meet through the internet.  Hanna and I have become email buddies, and the more I get to know her, the more awesome I think she is.  You should get to know her too and check out her Tumblr!  I even heard that she might be starting up a blog soon, so stay tuned for an update on that as well.  :)

UPDATE:  My gorgeous and super sweet friend Hanna just informed me that her blog is up and running!  You can click HERE to check it out.  :D

In case any of you were wanting to know how I did the crown braid for Thursday's OOTD, this is the video tutorial I watched to help me.  It's by Veronika of TickTockVintage, and if you like vintage style, then you should definitely check out her blog.  :)

blazer, jeans - Gap / bag, jewelry - Target /
blouse, cami - Old Navy / belt - Torrid / platforms - ModCloth

I love this outfit because it looks so pulled together, but is still fun and casual, which is perfect for a student like moi.  I'm also really digging the 70's vibe going on, so I went with with the retro theme (and with the comments about a hippy-esque look) and wore my hair in a braided crown and winged out my eyeliner.  I'm pretty proud of that eyeliner.  I think it's the first time it's actually looked good that way!

jacket, bag - Target / sweater, tshirt - thrifted / jeans - Gap /
shoes - DSW / earrings - Marc by Marc Jacobs

Well, y'all, it's officially the beginning of a new semester.  Sigh.

Don't get me wrong, I'm totally excited about it, but I'm totally tired, too!  Winter Break threw off my sleep schedule SO badly, and I have a feeling I'll be pretty run down for at least a week as I try to get back on track.  Hopefully, my awesome new classes will make things go a bit easier!  Awesome new classes include:
  • Metalsmithing and Jewelry I
  • Beginning Figure Drawing
  • Computer Applications in the Visual Arts
  • Ethnomusicology (music of different cultures)
So, not a long post today because I'm about to doze off as I write this, but it's a pretty simple outfit anyway, so not too exciting there, either.  Except for the extra cozy and warm sweater I scored during my thrift haul last week.  That's super exciting!  :)

I hope I can be a more functioning human tomorrow.  Wish me luck!  :)

So, I've kind of been obsessed with polka-dots lately.  Maybe it's because I'm really into the look of patterned tights at the moment, maybe it's because they were recently on Marc Jacobs' runway, or maybe it's because they're just so darn adorable and fun!  From what I've heard/seen, polka dots are gonna be big for spring, but I also don't want to pay upwards of $20 for a pair of plus-size tights, you know?  So I decided to DIY my own, and thought I would share my experience with you!  Want to know how I made them?  Click thru for the how-to!

For reference for future DIY's (and possible giveaways!), would you mind sharing what size clothing you wear?  Voting is confidential, so no worries if you're nervous about sharing.  :)

Thank you so much for participating!  (FYI: I only listed the US sizes, so if you're outside the US, please pick the size that corresponds the closest to your international sizing.)  :)

FATSHION SWAP WITH... Hannah of An Old Story

blazer - thrifted / blouse - from Hannah / skirt - Old Navy /
belt - Torrid / heels - Payless / tights - Target /
bag - gifted / earrings - Marc by Marc Jacobs /
necklace, ring - Forever21 / lippy - Benefit Espionage

Hey guys!  Are you as glad as I am that it's Friday!?  The weekend couldn't get here fast enough!  The week itself was full of ups and downs, but it's finally the weekend, so now things should mellow out.  :) Some of the highlights of my week included the arrival of my orders from ASOS (I'll do a review post soon) and Zoya, having my Spring Semester financial aid finally processed, and a great thrifting haul (hello, sweaters!).  But probably one of my favorite parts of the week was organizing fatshion exchanges with a few new friends!

On Tumblr a while back, I had expressed interest in doing a fatshion exchange, and the lovely Hannah from An Old Story reached out to me about participating.  I adore her blog, and have been a loyal reader of An Old Story for quite some time, so I was super excited that we could share some fashion and get to know each other better!  She sent me some pics of things she wanted to clear out of her closet and I did the same, then we each picked from the others stock.

The shirt I'm wearing in today's OOTD was one of my picks, and I absolutely love it!  It fits great, is really cute in a retro sort of way, and can be worn tucked in as shown or as more of a cropped tunic. I love the subtle pattern and it's totally my style.  It turns out that Hannah and I actually have a lot in common and have similar styles, so I think it's the beginning of a beautiful friendship.  :)  So thank you, Hannah!  I love the wonderful things you sent me and will be wearing them in the very near future.

And dear reader, if you haven't checked out her blog yet, you must certainly do so.  She's a beautiful, sweet girl with a killer sense of style, and I love checking in with An Old Story to see what she's been up to.  :)

Have you ever done an fatshion swap with a friend?  How did it go?  Did you get a new favorite piece of clothing from it?

Hey there! I went to Goodwill the other day and found some awesome new-to-me things and I thought sharing my finds in a haul video would be more fun than just uploading pictures onto the blog. Let me know what you think, and if you'd be interested in more videos!  Thanks for watching, and Happy Friday!!  :)

Ever see a fabulous trendy piece of clothing that you just HAVE to have??  And that fabulous item just happens to be hundreds of dollars?!  I hate that, especially when it's a trend that will only last a season or two.  I spotted this Ralph Lauren cape online a while ago, but there's no way I was about to drop $500 on it!  It's on sale for half right now, but still. Why buy when you can DIY?  My version cost me about $5 and took less than 20 minutes to make.  Want to make one of your own?  Click through for the deets!  :)

cape - DIY / long-sleeve shirt - Old Navy / jeans - Gap /
belt - off another cardi / boots, bracelet - Target /
bag - gifted / earrings - Fossil / necklace - Forever21
(on some!) nails - Essie Carry On / lippy - Benefit Espionage

Hey guys, check out my new cape that I DIY-ed today!  I love it!  It's warm but lightweight, but really I'm just a sucker for plaid, y'all.  But don't fret, if you want to make a cape of your own, I will post all the details of the DIY tomorrow (it's super easy, too!).

Anyway, today was a rainy day and Monday, but I didn't let it get me down.  Instead, I wore something warm and cozy and kept my spirits up, up, up.  I've been wanting to DIY this cape for a while, so the weather definitely gave me incentive!  I paired it with dark skinny jeans, leather accents, and brown flat boots, and voila!  I totally felt like a Ralph Lauren model or something.  :)

P.S. And yes, I know I need a manicure.  But do you see how clean my closet is now after a huge reorganization?!  Did my attempt to distract you work?  No?  Ok, ok, I'm gonna go paint my nails right now.  ;)
