I think winter is officially over, you guys.  I am super bummed!  We didn't even really get much of a winter this year, and spring is already here.  *frowny face*  But as sad as I am about no more freezing mornings, warmer weather means that my cute summery clothes are beginning to migrate back into regular rotation.  The brighter clothes and cute shoes are probably my favorite part of spring, so I won't complain too much.  ;)

Today was almost in the 80's, so out came one of my favorite floral dresses that you've seen before (here).  If you get a chance to run to Target or Old Navy in the near future, you really should go because both stores have some really great dresses this season.  I find that I keep wearing their dresses over and over because they're just so easy to throw on, and you can quickly change the look with just different layering pieces.

My layer of choice today was my chambray shirt from Old Navy (plus size version here).  I bought it a size big because I wanted an easy, loose shirt to toss on over dresses and things when I didn't feel like a jacket (or if it was too warm for one).  It's a thinner material (and 100% cotton) and a longer length, which I like.  Every girl should have a chambray shirt, it really is a super versatile wardrobe essential!

What's your favorite part of Spring's arrival?  Is it the outfits?  ;)

I found some awesome pants at the Gap, and I wanted to share my find with you guys!  They're the Broken-in Straight Khakis and they're amazing.  Gap has them in a bunch of colors (I ordered the coral, blue, and army green) and they go up to size 20.  I ordered a size 18 and they fit perfectly (despite reviews saying they run large).

So, for those of you that have been looking for a comfy pair of bright pants for spring, I would highly suggest giving these a try!

Just a quick post to update y'all on a couple things!

First, no you're not crazy because yes I updated the look and layout of the blog.  Again. :P  I feel like it's always a bit of a work in progress, but I think I'll stick with this new setup for a while.  So far, this version feels the best and the most "me".  Also, I just thought the previous layout was REALLY cluttered and busy, and I think this new look is waaaay more clean and streamlined.  What do you think?  I haven't decided if the background will change with the seasons, but I'm just really feeling bees lately, so I thought, what the heck!  :)

Also, you may or may not have noticed that I've opened a blog store.  Y'all have seen pics of my closet, and you KNOW I have way too much stuff.  I really need to find better homes for things that haven't seen the light of day in a long time, or ever!  Anyway, the link to the store is up in the top right corner of the blog if you want to take a peek.  Through the end of March, if you use the discount code "trexsays20off", you'll get 20% off your order (no minimum purchase).  And I'm definitely going to be adding TONS more things in the very near future (tops, skirts, shoes, bags, etc), I've just been busy this weekend with family stuff and the blog layout issues.  Can you help me spread the word about my little store?  I would appreciate any help.  :)

Anyway, I hope you're having a good weekend, lovelies!  What have you been up to?  Don't forget to enter the mini-giveaway!  :)

Here's a picture of the new buddy I made yesterday.
Such a gorgeous smile on this one!  ;)

I know my whistle necklace is super cute, but sometimes, I wear it for more practical purposes.  It's a working whistle, you see, and I like to think that it will get me out of trouble if I need a quick escape.  It's like my own little secret, and I think most people assume it's just for looks.  But no!  It tweets just perfectly, and I love it.

I had to go to a family function tonight, and thought maybe, just maybe, my charming necklace might be helpful.  You can never be too sure, after all.  I'm sure you've had those kinds of family things, right?  Where you want to be able to call for help or run out the door at a moment's notice or whistle really loud to make everyone be quiet, right?  Right.  And don't you wish you'd had a whistle then, too?  YES I BET YOU DO.

So, I happen to have an extra, brand new whistle necklace (in silver), and I would love to send it to one of you lovely readers.  All you have to do is leave me a note in the comments below and you'll be entered to win.  If you want to tell me a funny story about a time when a whistle necklace would have come in handy for you, feel free.  ;)  (Giveaway will end on March 2nd, so make sure you enter!)

You guys, this is like the most perfect scarf for me EVER.  I'm an art student, I obsess over the color wheel all the time, and I think squares rule (cuz they're all even-sided and stuff).  Seriously, I think I kinda really REALLY need this scarf.  Maybe it'll still be in stock by the time my birthday rolls around.  Fingers crossed!  :D

Photoshop hack job, but you get the idea. ;)

I mean, see how freaking cute I look in it?!  Do you hear me, boyfriend?!

I don't know about you, but I'm already thinking of Spring and all the fun outfit options it brings.  And high on my wishlist this season are bright sandals!  I've always been more of a neutral shoe kind of gal, but I am totally digging the brights and neons that are sure to be everywhere.  I think a bright sandal is a great way to wear the trend, without going over the top.  Imagine wearing a cute, girlie dress then BAM!  There's a hot pop of color at your feet.  I love it!

Above are some inspiration sandal ideas to get you going!  I admit, I'll probably be checking theOutnet for some of these to go on mega sale, but in the meantime will be keeping an eye out at my favorite stores for great alternatives.  Will you be wearing bright sandals this spring/summer?

dress, leggings - Old Navy / flats (similar) - DSW
bag - Forever21 / necklace (similar) - Marc by Marc Jacobs

I was on self-imposed cleaning lockdown today, y'all.  Seriously, I HAD to clean my house, so I didn't even go outside until 6pm.  Sounds drastic, I know, but when you still have your Christmas tree up and it's pushing March, you do what you have to do.  Desperate times call for desperate measures and all that jazz.

Coincidentally (or maybe really subconsciously), I chose to wear stripes today.  Black and white stripes, no less.  I guess I really am guilty of not keeping up with things around here!  Whoops!  School insanity, exhaustion, and if we're coming clean, a bit of laziness has kept me from doing a proper tidying up.  But I'm determined to get it done asap.  I don't want to be a prisoner to my clutter any longer.  Wish me luck!  :)

P.S. Do you think I worked in enough jail puns?  Eh, I tried.  ;)

Wow, it feels like for-ev-er since I posted an outfit!  I guess I've been busier with school than I realized.  The coming weeks don't appear to be as jam-packed with due dates and tests and project deadlines, so we should be back on schedule with blogging, at least for a while.  Which is good, because I've missed posting and connecting with you guys.  Sorry for the mini-hiatus!

Anyway, yesterday I took a day off from the internet and pretty much the whole outside world.  I seriously didn't even leave the house, I just needed a day to decompress from last week.  But today we were out and about again, proving you can't keep a kid cooped up in the house all weekend!  Eventually, children will make you take them outside.  ;)  So today, we had a mom-kid date and went for a fun lunch, then to see The Muppets at the dollar theater.  It was a great movie!  You should see it, if you haven't already.  It's super cute, and a good time for all.

What have you been up to?  Catch me up on your happenings, I've missed out on so much lately!  Did you have a good weekend?

This afternoon, I took a break from the insane amount of my weekend homework (and lets be honest, the fashion shows online) and went to the art museum with my kiddo instead.  I REALLY wanted to see the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibition, but the lines were a disaster with 2+ hour wait.  So no fashion for me today, and tomorrow's the last day so I don't think I'll be seeing it.  SAD FACE.

But we did get to explore the rest of the museum, which was such a blast, and honestly, probably a lot more fun.  My son had never been to an art museum before, so it was like seeing it all with fresh eyes.  Our favorites of the day included Ancient Egyptian artifacts, the mosaics and sculptures, and paintings by Picasso, Monet, and Van Gogh.  It was so cool to be able to teach my kid about Cubism and Impressionism, and he really loved the idea of daubs and splotches of paint becoming a complete Impressionistic painting.  He's well on his way to being an art lover!  (YAY!!!)

Are you having a good weekend?  What kinds of fun things have you been up to?  When's the last time you went to an art museum?  If it's been a while, I highly recommend going!

A few pictures from our day...

NYFW FALL 2012: Rebecca Minkoff

photos via FabSugar

Another day of NYFW and more fabulous shows!  I was able to catch the Rebecca Minkoff show live online, and it was amazing.  If you're able to catch it on repeat, I highly recommend you do, it was awesome!  I'm already familiar with her gorgeous bags and urban aesthetic, and I was happy to see both very much present in her show yesterday!  Her color choices and use of multiple textures like snakeskin, leather, fur, shearling, crochet, and sequins were flawless.  I really want to try texture mixing now!

Anyway, Rebecca Minkoff is definitely becoming one of my favorite designers because she's fabulous (of course!), but also because her style really speaks to the edgy rocker chick that lives inside me.  She doesn't come out often, but when she does, it's with a bang!  And as you might remember from Friday, I'm just really digging the whole pop of color trend that seems to be taking root for Fall.  So, because I love you guys, I styled up some plus-size looks that have a Rebecca Minkoff edgy vibe so you could try the pop o' color and texture mixing that she presented at Fashion Week!

Are you loving the black and red as much as I am?  Seriously, it's hot.  And I'm definitely adding the texture mix overload to my fashion to-do list.  Do you like wearing multiple textures at once?  What's your favorite way to mix up textures?
