You guys. This is really kind of awkward for me to put out there, but you're awesome and super cool, so I'm just going to say it..

This is the first official call for sponsors for DIY FATSHION!  If you've ever thought, hey, that Dani has a pretty cool blog and I should advertise my etsy, or blog, or what-have-you on her snazzy site, then guess what babes?  August would be a great the time to go for it.  I know I'd love to see your blog button or shop banner in my sidebar, wouldn't you?

You can read more about sponsorship and my stats HERE (or click the tab at the top of the page).

Or, if you would like me to host a giveaway of your fabulous fares, send me something to review, or just want to offer my readership an awesome discount code for your shop, just sent me an email at and we can go from there.  You can also send me an email to just say hello, too.  In fact, it would be super fun if you did!  :)

Since y'all know how devoted I am to my handbags, I thought it would be fun to show you guys today what I've been carrying around in mine all summer!

Finally, here's a decent close-up of the super cute and summery Jason Wu for Target satchel I've been toting everywhere lately.  I love the light color and the basketweave pattern on it, and it's a great size for summer, not too big, not too small.  The detachable shoulder strap is handy, too.  I was really lucky the day I bought it, as it was the very last Jason Wu bag at my Target.  Woot!  (Or should I say, Hoot!)

A sweet vintage owl pin I bought this day.  One of Jason Wu's logo has an owl in it, so I like the little reference to that, especially considering the bag this little guy is perched on.  For whatever the reason, I keep finding myself adding pins to things like purses, jackets, etc, and just letting them live there.  I guess it's ok though, as I'm much more likely to wear them that way.

A general idea of everything that goes into my daily handbag (which is deceivingly roomy inside, apparently!)  I didn't realize just how much stuff I carry every day until I took this picture.  Haha!

the camera case for my baby Powershot
peppermint gum
allergy medicine (when in Texas, be prepared!)
my favorite RayBan sunnies
granola bar for the ravenous kiddo
a Forever21 ring (I'm always taking them off, it seems)
hair thingies just in case
mirror compact from the Dots clearance bin
L'Oreal Colour Riche Balm in Rose Elixir (man, I'm really into rose stuff!)
vintage whistle in case I get lost or need help

Bare Minerals travel brush (mine came with a kit)
nail file that's handy if something breaks
Nancy Drew journal for blog ideas, art projects, etc
random pen that I've probably lost and refound 100 times
ASOS small red clutch (that I use as a wallet)
my cellphone (not pictured because most of the time it's in my hand, haha!)

I always think seeing what other people have in their bags is fun, but it's also like a window into who they really are, don't you think?  In the spirit of letting y'all get to know me better (and because it's just plain FUN!), I'm thinking that I'll do a post like this once a season.  I'm pretty sure that what I carry changes from season to season without me realizing it, so it shouldn't be a bunch of repeats.  And I'm positive that there will be random art supplies in the Fall edition of What's in my Bag, as the semester will be in full swing by then, so that should definitely be interesting.

What kinds of interesting stuff do you carry in your handbag every day?  I'm sure there's at least one quirky thing in there!  ;)

Hey, y'all, I'm back!   I can't tell you how crazy INSANE moving has been.  Add in a final project for my summer class where I have to build a chair (yeah, you read that right, actual furniture made of actual wood), and I think it goes without saying that I have been super busy.   I'm sorry to have neglected the blog a bit more than I anticipated, but I'll officially be back tomorrow after I turn in the rest of my last assignment (and maybe I'll even share pictures of my chair here, too).

dress (also in navy) - ASOS
bug belt (or with turtles!) - ASOS
bag - Jason Wu for Target
flats - H&M
ring - Forever21
sunnies - RayBan

Anyway, this afternoon I had to make a run to the hardware store to pick up replacement drill bits and yet another pack of wood screws, and darn it if I wanted to feel pretty!  I've been schlumping around all week, unpacking at the new house, cleaning the old house, hunched over in my sweltering garage building a dumb chair, etc etc etc.  So I grabbed a quick shower and my cheeriest dress, and off I went.  Sure, I looked kinda silly walking through Home Depot in a polkadot dress and bow flats, but screw it.  Haha, screw it.  I made a funny only I will giggle at.  ;)

Wow, it's already time for another Fatshion Faceoff?  With moving craziness and schoolwork, today's FF totally snuck up on me!  But since Olivia picked swimwear for our challenge this week, I used it as an excuse to take a break from unpacking and play in the sprinklers with my kiddo.  I already posted my favorite swimsuit earlier this summer, so I grabbed this oldie-but-goodie one I've had for ages.

swimsuit (old) - Macys
sunnies - borrowed from my kid
(I didn't want to ruin my prescription Wayfarers!)

The water was cold, but it felt SO good with the crazy heat we've been having.  We also set up the Slip n' Slide, but I was too much of a chicken to try it out (despite loving it when I was a kid, haha!)  How do you keep cool on hot days?

Anyway, make sure to clickity click on over to the links below to see how the other girls did with their swimwear, as I'm sure they're looking fabulous!  And I'll be back to regular posting in the next day or two, I promise!  :D

A super hot day of lugging boxes around calls for a light and bright outfit, don't you think?

tank top (similar) - Old Navy
skirt (only avail. in black) - Old Navy
flip flops (similar) - Aldo via Zappos
bag - H&M

Apparently, the heat also calls for copious amounts of lip stuff, too.  By the way, I'll be away for a day or two for The Big Move of 2012, but in the meantime, y'all keep cool!  :)

As you guys know, I'm up to my ears in moving boxes and packaging tape.  I didn't want to just throw all of my jewelry into a big box because I know it would wind up in a tangly mess, so I packed up my stuff the same way I do when I'm traveling.

I don't know about you, but when I travel, I like to take a bunch of accessory options.  To justify my travel hoarding tendencies, I came up with an easy way to store my jewelry that doesn't take up any more space than I'd usually account for.  The best part?  It's free because I use stuff I already have (and that you probably already have, too!).  So I suppose this is more of a handy tip more than a DIY, but I thought it would be helpful nonetheless! :)  Click through for more --->

necklace - Target
dress - Old Navy
bag - Jason Wu for Target

I'm one of those people that can't keep a straight face, no matter how hard I try.  Doesn't stop me from trying to be a badass baller babe, though.

dress - Target
belt (from a skirt) - Target
bag - Jason Wu for Target
flip flops (similar) - Aldo via Zappos
ring - Forever21
sunnies - RayBan
Isn't my squinty It's Too Sunny Face just lovely?  I swapped out my regular glasses for my sunnies and problem solved!

I almost feel silly griping about the over-abundant sunshine here in Texas when I know friends of mine overseas are having sunless summers.  But seriously, as much as y'all can't stand the constant rain and gray, I can't stand the constant sun and heat.  My face gets all squinty (see above) and I burn SO easily, you guys.  Mr. Sun ain't no friend of mine (at least some of the time).  And really, I'd just like to be able to walk out of the house without looking like I stepped into a giant fart or something.

This week, it was my turn to pick our Fatshion Faceoff challenge item!  I love accessories, especially shoes and bags, so I like to suggest them for our Fatshion Faceoffs.  Sneaky?  Maybe.  Worth it?  OH YEAH.  :)  That being said, this week I chose a colorful purse for the 5 of us to style!  Wanna see mine?

cardigan - Forever21
dress - birthday gift from Hanna
heels (only avail in black), bag - Zara sale

When I saw this bag pop up in the Zara sale, my mind immediately went to this dress I received from my friend Hanna for my birthday last month.  As the dress has all the colors of the rainbow, I had a hard time picking which color bag to purchase.  I settled on the yellow, as I think it'll go with much more of my wardrobe than the other colors offered (although the pink was equally as tempting!).  Anyway, I just really love the bright stripes next to the subtle polka dot effect on the bag, don't you?

Make sure to check out how the other Fatshion Faceoff girls styled their colorful purses!  As a handbag hoarder, er I mean, lover, I'm dying to see what they came up with!

Hey y'all!  I got my July Birchbox in the mail the other day, so I thought I'd do another haul/reveal/whatever video of the stuff that came in it!  Sorry for the bad lighting, it didn't look so crappy until after I uploaded it to my YouTube channel (that you should totally subscribe to, btw).  ;)

If you're interested in signing up for Birchbox, you can do so here.  For only $10 a month, including shipping, you get to try out new premium beauty brands.  Not a shabby deal, and every once in a while I get something really cool in there.  A couple of months ago, I got a Dr Jart Beauty Balm sample, and I've since bought it in the full size, it's that freaking awesome (because it's THE perfect lightweight moisturizer, foundation, everything for summer).  :)

(for more info about what I'm wearing, click on the above pictures to go to that day's post)

I couldn't get enough of: green skirt, red jeggings, flare jeans, short denim skirt
I wore each of these items several times, and found them all relatively simple to make outfits with.  Perhaps that's just because I'm awesome at making outfits (haha!), but lets get real, it's probably because they're basic pieces that do all the heavy lifting for me.  The big surprise item of the challenge was the red jeggings, though.  I'm still pretty surprised at how versatile they are for such a bright, statement piece.

I could've lived without: dark khaki shorts, denim vest, cardigans, floral shirt
I've discovered that I'm not much of a shorts person, as I didn't really enjoy wearing them that much.  I just don't think they work well with everything else I chose for the challenge.  The vest and cardigans were iffy as it was often waaaay too hot to put them on!  I mean, I live for fashion, but I'm not gonna DIE for fashion, if you know what I mean.  ;)  Also, I thought that including the floral shirt in the challenge would force me to find ways to wear it, but it just didn't seem to go with anything when I was making outfits.  They can't all be winners, I guess!

My favorite outfits:  1, 5, 13, 27

My least favorite outfits:  9, 16, 29

30x30 MVP: ......drumroll please...... the polka dot dress!
I got so much use out of this dress, and was able to wear it in totally different ways, and I found myself reaching for it all the time, only to force myself to put it back and wear something less remixed.  I mean, I love polka dots as much as the next girl, but I've definitely fallen in a forever kind of love with this dress.   The fit is perfect on me, it's a great length that's both flirty and functional, and it's super comfortable.

Overall, I think the 30x30 was a success!  I learned that creative layering is key and that I can survive without the safety net I sometimes find in cardigans.  I mixed more prints than I ever have, wore bright red pants for the first time, and learned to really just have fun with fashion.  It was hard being confined to only a portion of my clothes, but I'm so glad that I did this challenge with Jess and the other girls.  I'm also really glad that, now that it's over, I'm able to wear the rest of my wardrobe!
