DOUBLE VISION: SPARKLE

Hey y'all!  It's time for this week's Double Vision post!  In case you missed last week's post, Double Vision is a new series of posts that I do with my friend Hanna of The Wardrobe Challenge  (you can read more about DV here).  :)

Anyway, this week it was Hanna's turn to pick our challenge, and she chose for us to sparkle things up!  I chose to keep things casual and comfy for a Sunday afternoon:

sweater (similar), 1 (equiv to 16/18) - ASOS Curve | leggings, 16 - ASOS Curve
clutch, cuff, earrings - Forever21 | sneakers, 9 - Converse via Zappos

As I'm spending the day with my kid, doing art projects and watching Spongebob, I thought leggings and a sweater would be a good choice.  But nobody said I couldn't glam things up a bit with some serious sparkle!  I think it's so fun to add sequins to an otherwise casual outfit, and need to remember to do it more often!

Now that you've seen my DV for the week, make sure to head over to Hanna's blog to see how she styled her look!

BALANCING ACT

tee, L - H&M | scarf - GAP | jeans, 18 - Torrid | sandals, US9 - Target

El Boyfriendo is out of town at a curling thing in Wisconsin this weekend, and I am SO excited!  Not that he's gone (because I love him and am missing him and stuff), but because that means I have an excuse to forgo school projects spend two whole days with The Kid.

See, since the semester started, the challenge to balance my time between my kiddo and school projects has been really difficult for me.  On one hand, I would love nothing more than to spend all of my time with my son, but doing that would mean neglecting my work at school.  And neglecting too much at school would mean I'd never get around to graduating (and getting job that would provide for him), so I feel as if I'm always stuck in this awful cycle of busyness and guilt.  I don't know if that sounds familiar to anyone else or just makes me sound like a bad mom (I swear, I'm not).
Anyway, the two days off from that whole mess in my head has been awesome.  Almost as awesome as running around today with my little man!  The rain didn't even get us down and I'm pretty sure we had more fun with umbrellas than two people should be allowed to have.  :)

How do you balance your time?  Any tips for me?  :)

FATSHION FACEOFF: HOOP EARRINGS

Hi there!  It's Wednesday and you know its time for the Fatshion Faceoff, right?  (Or if you're a first-timer that stumbled here via whoknowswhere, click here to find out what the Fatshion Faceoff is all about!)  Anyway, this week's challenge item was chosen by Hanna and she picked... hoop earrings!  One of my favorite pairs of earrings are my hammered "gold" hoops I bought ForeverAgo from Forever21.  :D

earrings, necklace, bracelets - Forever21 | top, L - H&M
printed jeans, 18 - Forever21+ | booties, 9.5 - TJ Maxx

I think the main reason that I love these earrings (aside from the fact that they are gorgeous, of course) is because they are just so dang versatile.  I can dress them up with a smokin' hot dress and fancy heels, or I can pair them with funky jeans and booties for a more casual look that's perfect for a day in the studio.  If you don't have your own fabulous gold hoops, I highly recommend getting yourself a pair!  These ones are similar to mine and are super cute!  And did I mention that they're less than $5?  Amazingness.

DOUBLE VISION: FROM SUMMER TO FALL

Hey y'all!  It's time for this week's Double Vision post!  In case you missed last week's post, Double Vision is a new series of posts that I do with my friend Hanna of The Wardrobe Challenge  (you can read more about DV here).  :)

Anyway, this week it was my turn to pick our challenge, and I chose for us to take one of our summer outfits and reinterpret it for fall.  I chose this summer outfit:

And this is how I decided to style it for an autumn outfit:

cardigan, XL - Old Navy | dress as top, XXL - Target | skirt (similar), 16 - Old Navy
belt, 2 - Torrid | tights, 1X/2X - Target | boots, EU40 - Duo
necklace (similar in black) - Forever21 | bow pin - selfmade

I love getting multiple seasons' use out of my clothes, and I find that a really simple way of transitioning outfits from summer to fall is to add a cardigan, tights, and boots.  In fact, I love adding those three things so much, that you can pretty much bet on seeing them a lot in the coming months.

Now pop over to Hanna's blog and see what summer outfit she made fabulous for fall!  :D

FATSHION FACEOFF: PLAYSUIT / JUMPSUIT

Hi there!  It's Wednesday and you know its time for the Fatshion Faceoff, right?  (Or if you're a first-timer that stumbled here via whoknowswhere, click here to find out what the Fatshion Faceoff is all about!)  Anyway, this week's challenge item was chosen by Mhairi and she picked... a playsuit or jumpsuit!  I actually wore mine yesterday (Tuesday) because we had perfect playsuit weather, and I decided to go a bit retro with how I styled it.

playsuit, UK20 - ASOS | bag - Forever21 | shoes, 9 - Modcloth

I thought about playing up the blue in my playsuit with my accessories and shoes, but ultimately decided to go with red. I'm an art student and all that, so why not go with the whole primary color scheme, right?  Plus I really love how the red pops against the green grass, too. COMPLIMENTARY COLORS, WOOT! (Ok, I'll stop nerding out over the colorwheel now, lol!)  Anyway, I think everything worked out nicely!  I can't wait to try styling this playsuit for fall when the the weather starts to turn cool for realsies.  I'm definitely seeing it paired up with some tights and oxford booties, maybe even with a fine knit sweater layered over it..  Is it fall yet?!?  :D

DOUBLE VISION: LEATHER & POLKADOTS

Hello you!  I'm super glad that you stopped by the blog today because I have some awesome news to share with you! You know how every week on Wednesdays my friend Hanna and I participate in the Fatshion Faceoff with  the totes awesome Olivia, Mouna, and Mhairi?  Well, Hanna and I have been chatting for months about starting another challenge for just the two of us because we're such great friends and have so much fun together.  We chat all the time on text and Skype, send each other cool packages, and are pretty much the closest thing to a bff you can have without actually having met in person.  ;)

So, without further ado, I give you the very first installment of our new project, Double Vision! We're really excited about it, too, because we're leaving ourselves open to all kinds of different challenges (instead of the same items of clothing like the FF).  So, one week we might be using the same movie for outfit inspiration, the next we might find an outfit worn by a celebrity and do our own spin on it, etc etc.  Doesn't that sound like so much fun?  I'm really excited about it, and I hope you are too!  We'll be doing a DV post every weekend, so make sure you follow the blog via GFC, Bloglovin', and Twitter so you don't miss any posts.

top (similar), L - H&M | skirt (similar), 16 - Forever21+
platforms (also awesome), UK7 - ASOS | clutch - Forever21

Hanna picked our first Double Vision challenge this week, and she chose a leather skirt and polkadot heels.  We both are in LOVE with these heels and have been CRAZY about leather skirts for this coming fall season, so I was totally pumped that she picked them for us this week.

To me, polkadots are more summery and leather is more fall/winter, so I decided to style mine together as a sort of how-to on transitioning from summer to fall.  I think the sparkle and peter-pan collar of the shirt girlies up the skirt while also tying in the navy/white shoes.  I really love the resulting outfit, and it was perfectly light but edgy for an almost-fall day!  :)

So, are you as excited as I am about the new DV feature here on the blog?  You definitely have to check out Hanna's blog, The Wardrobe Challenge to see how she paired up her leather skirt and polkadot heels!  She looks amazing, and you can check out her post HERE.  :D

FATSHION FACEOFF: SHORT-SLEEVE CARDIGAN

Hi there!  It's Wednesday and you know its time for the Fatshion Faceoff, right?  (Or if you're a first-timer that stumbled here via whoknowswhere, click here to find out what the Fatshion Faceoff is all about!)  Anyway, this week's challenge item was chosen by Mouna and she picked... a short-sleeved cardigan!  It's still pretty hot here, so I paired mine with shorts (while thanking Mouna from afar for picking something with short sleeves!).

cardi, L - Target | top, L - Forever21 | shorts, 20 - Forever21+ | flats, 9 - Old Navy

School has been keeping me busy, hence the simple outfit this week and the lack of posts lately (sorry about that!) Note to self: Be. A. Better. Blogger. :P

Anyway, now that you've seen my summery cardigany creation, make sure to clickity click the links below to see what the other girls came up with for this week's challenge (I'm sure they're looking fabulous)!  :D

FATSHION FACEOFF: STATEMENT RING

Hi there!  It's Wednesday and you know its time for the Fatshion Faceoff, right?  (Or if you're a first-timer that stumbled here via whoknowswhere, click the link at the top of the page to find out what the Fatshion Faceoff is all about!)  Anyway, this week's challenge item was chosen by Olivia and she picked... a statement ring!  Now, I have quite a few rings that would qualify as a "statement" piece, but none so much as this big funky ring I chose for today's challenge.  It's silly and weird, and I love it so so much because I made it!  Wanna see?

sunnies - RayBan | dress (similar), L - H&M | heels, US9 - Target | ring - selfmade

It totally fits my personality, don't you think?  Those of you that know me well would probably say YES.  Anyway, a cracked egg is something I totally identify with (especially as the semester gets underway), and heck, I'm not afraid to own my weirdness.  :)  As for the outfit, it's the opposite of weird, and I kept things simple to make my wacky ring the center of attention.  Because that's what a "statement piece" is supposed to do, right?  Get people's attention?

Mission.  Accomplished.

Now that you've seen my attempt at a statement ring, make sure to clickity click the links below to see what the other girls came up with for this week's challenge (I'm sure they're looking fabulous)!  :D

NEON SPARKLE RAWR

tee (similar), L - H&M | skirt, 16 - Old Navy
bag - H&M | flats, 10 - Zara

I think the post title explains it all.  What you have above is a trifecta of outfit awesomeness (obvs) with all the necessary components that scream "fashion blogger".  Add on a sock bun, and what more could you want for going out to grab breakfast for dinner?  :P
