30x30v2 REMIX PICKS

Aaand, here we go again with my picks for this second edition of the 30x30 Remix!  As a reminder, only clothing is counting for the 30 pieces, not any shoes, accessories, outerwear, etc. Let's have a looksie, shall we?

Matalan | Forever21+ | Forever21+ | H&M
H&M | New Look | ASOS Curve | H&M | H&M

Forever21+ | Old Navy | Macys | Old Navy | Old Navy | Old Navy
swap with Hannah | ModCloth | H&M | c/o Simply Be | New Look
Torrid | GAP | GAP | Old Navy | Old Navy | Old Navy | gift from Hanna | ASOS

Torrid | Old Navy

You might have noticed that I have a definite color scheme this time around (unlike the last 30x30 where my only real requirement was preservation of life in the 100+ degree Texas summer).  I'm sticking with a primarily monochromatic color story of black/gray/white, with a few little pops of oxblood (or maroon/burgundy for you traditionalists), yellow, cobalt, and purple/pink for interest.  There's a few different prints for fun.

This month I have a variety of events (like my little brother's college graduation, aw) and travelling (hello Philly, I will be in you in a few weeks!), so maximum remixability is a M.U.S.T.  So while my colors might seem a bit boring, I think I can make them work.  Especially if I add color with accessories, you know?  Let's just say that I'm seeing some colored tights and very snazzy shoes in the near future.

Not many dresses this time around, but several skirts.  Nine times out of ten, in my non-remix life, I'll choose a dress instead of a skirt, so I thought it'd be fun to challenge myself with more separates.  Hence the lots of shirts and cardigans and blouses and tunics and such.  A few pairs of jeans for if the unthinkable happens and it actually gets really cold here in Texas, a pair of leggings for warmer days, and *gasp* a pair of shorts!  (Maybe the world really is coming to an end if I'm able to wear shorts in Decemeber?  Let's hope not, though.  I really want to make 30 outfits and the Earth self-combusting or being invaded by aliens in a few weeks' time would put such a damper on my soon-to-be very fashionable month.)

Anyway, enough blabbing.  These are my picks, and I'm sticking to it!  Unless of course the aforementioned bummer doomsday sitch happens, then you might see me wrapped up and hiding in one of those silvery tin blankets for the remaining 9 days of the challenge while I run from a zombie apocalypse.  Which might not be too shabby, now that I think about it.  I hear shiny wearables are very fashionable this time of year.  ;)

IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN

Time for another 30x30 Remix Challenge, that is!  Over this past summer, I completed my first 30x30 with Jess of Animated Cardigan and Sarah of The Ridiculous Sort (and a few others).  Since it's been a while since then, we've decided that we're due for another go-around.  Why?  Because it's fun, that's why!  Isn't that reason enough?  No?  Hmph. Well, it's also a great way to get creative with your closet and learn to appreciate what you've got.  It cuts down on that whole what-to-pack confusion when travelling.  You also save money, since you don't have to shop for clothes while on the 30x30 (cuz you're using stuff you already have, right?).  All pretty good things to consider, especially during the holiday season.  :)

Don't know what the 30x30 is?  Well, it's pretty simple and we're doing it pretty similar to last time.  The easy-peasy guidelines for this installment:

  • Take 30 items from your closet and remix them into 30 different outfits over 30 days.
  • But if you need to take a day off here and there, that's ok too.  It's the holidays and we all get busy, you know?
  • Shoes, tights, accessories, yada yada yada don't count towards the 30 items, just actual pieces of clothing.
  • Outerwear doesn't count either, since we all live in different places with different climates, so no worries there.  We're nice people, we won't make you freeze.

Anyway, if all that sounds groovy and you'd like to join us, just leave me hello and a link to your blog in the comments so I can include you in the ever-awesome sidebar roundup.  Tomorrow I'll be posting the 30 pieces I've picked, and we start the challenge on December 1st (this Saturday).

Yay!!  So excited!  Hope you'll join us!

FATSHION FACEOFF: SIMPLY BE DRESS

Hi there!  It's Wednesday, and it's time for the Fatshion Faceoff! (If you're a first-timer that stumbled here via whoknowswhere, click here to find out what the Fatshion Faceoff is all about!) This week's challenge is very special, as each of us FF girls were sent this gorgeous floral skater dress by Simply Be to review! It's the first time that all of us have had the same exact item to style for the FF, and we couldn't be more excited. I chose to style mine fairly simply to let the dress shine, and because it's unseasonably warm here in Texas, you can get an idea how this dress would work for Spring/Summer where you are. My review follows the pictures below (spoiler alert: I love love love it!).

Gotta have a twirling shot, right? ;)

floral skater dress, US14 - c/o Simply Be (use code 3649 for 30% your order)
belt, XL - Targetmetallic bow heels, US9.5 - Shoemint (use code 30HAPPY for 30% off your order)
sunnies - RayBan bracelet - Rachel Leigh via Bluefly | bird earrings (similar) - Marc by Marc Jacobs via Zappos

So, this dress is amazing, you guys! I am totally in love with the vibrant floral pattern and the fabric is a good, medium weight with a bit of stretch, and isn't flimsy or see-through at all. The cutout detail at the back adds a special surprise, and I appreciate the fact that I can wear a bra and the straps won't show through the cutout.  I also LOVE that it's a skater style with pretty pleats, and the skirt is full (you could even wear a petticoat under it, I bet!). There are even adorable cap sleeves, y'all. Anyway, because it's such a versatile dress, I can dress it up (like I did today) or dress it down (I'm imagining tights, flat boots, and a denim jacket). I know I'll be able to wear it from season to season, which is awesome.

Since I'm fairly new to ordering from Simply Be, I'm still not entirely sure how their sizing runs or which size/s to order. Hanna suggested that I size down and order a US14/UK18, and I'm so glad I did! The bust fits perfectly, and while the waist is a bit loose on me (I blame it on my pear-shaped proportions), it's nothing that can't be solved with the cinch of a belt. The neckline is a lot higher than I'm used to wearing, but I'm excited to have something a bit different in my wardrobe than my usual go-to silhouettes. Do you like trying out new silhouettes? And will you be ordering this fab dress? If you're on the fence, I definitely suggest you try it. Especially because when you click on over to Simply Be, you can take 30% off of your order by using the code: 3649. How great is that, right? :)

A big "Thank You!" to Simply Be for sponsoring the Fatshion Faceoff this week! Make sure to check out how the other babes wore their new Simply Be dresses, and you can also snoop on my other favorite Simply Be dresses in the Shop the Post below.

WRAP YOURSELF IN WARMTH

Everyone needs a scarf to keep them warm this time of year, and I am no exception (obviously). I'd be more than happy to wear any of these scarves by Lovarzi during the winter months! Especially the tartan one. I love how Burberry-esque it is!

FATSHION FACEOFF: BAND TEE

Hi there!  It's Wednesday, and it's time for the Fatshion Faceoff! (If you're a first-timer that stumbled here via whoknowswhere, click here to find out what the Fatshion Faceoff is all about!) This week's challenge item was chosen by Mouna and she picked... a band/movie/slogan/etc t-shirt!

Now, as you may or may not know, The Beatles are my favorite band evah, so I was more than happy to let my Beatles-freak flag fly. I've collected (er, hoarded) quite a few tees featuring the Fab Four, but this one shows them later in their career (when they made their best music, in my opinion), so of course this is the one I chose to wear. Are you a Beatles fan? What's your favorite song? When it comes to the Beatles, it's just too hard for me to pick favorites (especially between the guys themselves)!

Paul and John.. *sigh*

sunnies - RayBandenim jacket, 18 - 17 Sundays | tee (not similar, LOVE it!), 1X - Forever21+
jeans (similar), 18 - Torrid | sneakers, US9 - Converse via Zappos | bag (similar) - Target

And how great is this jacket, btw?! Hanna told me a while ago about a coupon code for 17 Sundays, so I took a chance and ordered it. It's amazing, made of great quality stretchy cotton denim, and they even send you a little packet of extra "studs" just in case any become loose. If you're thinking about getting it, the website recommends sizing down (which I did) for a snugger, rocker-ish fit, but the forearms on it are a bit too tight for my liking. Maybe I just have larger than usual forearms, as everywhere else it fits great. I'm thinking about trying to alter the cuffs to see if that helps.

Anyway, now that you've seen my Fatshion Faceoff this week, make sure to check out the other girls' posts. I wonder what kinds of t-shirts they're wearing today!  :)

DOUBLE VISION: ANIMAL PRINT TOP

Hey y'all!  It's time for this week's Double Vision post!  Double Vision is an awesome series of posts that I do with my friend Hanna of The Wardrobe Challenge  (you can read more about DV here).

This week our challenge was picked by Hanna and she chose.. an animal print shirt!  Even though leopard is one of my favorite prints (proof here and here), for whatever reason I didn't own a leopard print top until recently. I saw one at Forever21+ (similar here) and just had to snatch it up.  So glad I did, too, as I've already worn it several times, including today:

cardigan w/belt (similar), XL - Macys | top (similar, similar), 1X - Forever21+ |
necklace (similar) - ASOS | cuff (similar) - Forever21 | leggings (similar), 1X - Forever21+
boots (similar for less), EU40 - Duo | bag (similar) - Target

Now lets head over and see how Hanna wore her animal print shirt, shall we?

By the way, for all you readers here in the US, SimplyBe has a coupon code right now for $50 off of a $50+ purchase.  I totally just bought this wine-colored sweater for only $10.99, shipping included.  Use the code 3810 when you click thru to SimplyBe.  :)

FATSHION FACEOFF: POLKA DOT SHIRT

Hi there!  I'm posting my Fatshion Faceoff late this week, you guys (more on that in a minute, but if you're a first-timer that stumbled here via whoknowswhere, click here to find out what the Fatshion Faceoff is all about!) This week's challenge item was chosen by Olivia and she picked... a polka dot top! I had a few to choose from, but opted for comfort and went with the one that was the flowiest.

Y'all, I'm really sorry for being such a bad blogger lately.  I know I keep saying that I'll do better and I really do have the best intentions to keep up with the blog on top of everything else going on.  But as blogging is a hobby, it's often the first thing to get chucked from my to-do list.  The have-to's take precedence over the want-to's, and trust me when I say that I really REALLY want to blog more regularly.  I miss you all, and hope you can stick with me as the semester winds down over the next few weeks.  Anyway, I hope you all understand and accept my apologies.  Maybe keep me in your thoughts and send encouraging vibes my way to help me keep my sanity?  And while you're at it, perhaps overlook the exhaustion on my face in the pictures below?  ;)

cardigan, XL - Old Navy | top (similarly spotted), 1X - Forever21+ | jeggings (similar), XL - Old Navy
scarf (similar for less, ebay) - McQueen via ebay | bag (similar) - Forever21boots, US9 - Forever21

Now that you've (finally, sorry!) seen my Fatshion Faceoff, make sure to visit the other girls' blogs to see what they did this week (if you haven't already!).  I've already checked them out, and I'll be the first to tell you that the other girls are rocking their polka dots this week!

FATSHION FACEOFF: PRINTED DRESS

Hi there!  It's Wednesday and time for the Fatshion Faceoff!  (If you're a first-timer that stumbled here via whoknowswhere, click here to find out what the Fatshion Faceoff is all about!) This week's challenge item was chosen by me and I picked... a patterned dress!  I have dresses with stripes and polka dots and birds and leopard print and whatnot, but I wanted to wear a different kind of print today!

I picked up this adorable horse print dress from Dorothy Perkins during a summer sale and have been dying to wear it with tights and boots for a totally over-the-top equestrian outfit.  But seeing as how we're still having shorts and sandals weather here in Texas, I decided not to wait any longer and pulled it out for our challenge this week..

heels, EU40 - Zara | clutch (similar), earrings (similar), bracelet (similar) - Forever21

Isn't it super cute?!  I love how it's ladylike but still awesome and fun.  :)  Anyway, now that you've seen my Fatshion Faceoff, make sure to visit the other girls' blogs to see what they did this week (if you haven't already!).

DOUBLE VISION: POLKA DOT SKIRT

Hey y'all!  It's time for this week's Double Vision post!  Double Vision is an awesome series of posts that I do with my super cool friend Hanna of The Wardrobe Challenge  (you can read more about DV here).

This week our challenge was a polka dot skirt!  I have an amazing skirt from Modcloth that I was intending to wear, however said skirt was just a bit too dressy for my taste today, so I improvised a more casual version.  I know, I know, it seems to be a running theme that my DV posts are more on the casual side, but I think that's because we post on Sundays which tend to run very laid-back outfit-wise (for me, at least).

earrings (similar) - Forever21 | shirt, XXL - Old Navy
dress (similar), XXL - Target | loafers (similar), US9 - Old Navy

Do you wear dresses as skirt?  During the summer I did a lot, but haven't much yet this fall. I need to remember to do that combo more, it's a great way to maximize your wardrobe.  Anyway, make sure to click over to Hanna's blog to see how she wore her polka dot skirt!

FATSHION FACEOFF: CRAZY LEGS

Hi there!  It's Friday and my apologies babes, I know I'm a couple of days late for this week's Fatshion Faceoff (*coughcough*, erm, again).  (If you're a first-timer that stumbled here via whoknowswhere, click here to find out what the Fatshion Faceoff is all about!)    Yet again, schoolwork has proven more time-consuming than I anticipated.  And to be honest, with only about a month left of the semester, I suspect that I will be even more crazy busy in the weeks to come.  I can't wait for winter break, y'all.

Anyway, this week's challenge item was chosen by Hanna and she picked... crazy and/or patterned legwear!  Now, Hanna has amazing style, but I'll admit that I did chuckle a bit when I received these leggings in the mail from her months ago.  They are certainly loud and outside my comfort zone, but fashion is FUN so why the heck not give 'em a go, you know?

jacket (similar), XL - Macy's | necklace (kinda similar) - Forever21 | shirt (kinda similar but sparkly!), L - H&M
skirt (similar), XL - Target | leggings (similar), UK18 - gift from Hanna | boots, US9 - Forever21

Floral and sheer and leopard print, oh my!  I couldn't decide whether to tone down the crazy pattern or really go nuts and play it up, so I just put on what I felt my best in.  Kind of a hodgepodge, but I'm ok with it, lol.  :D  And I don't know why, but I feel like a true blogger in these pictures.  Pattern mixing, trendy boots, funky legwear, and spikes will do that to a girl, I suppose?

Now that you've seen my Fatshion Faceoff, make sure to visit the other girls' blogs to see what they did this week (if you haven't already!).
