LITTLE MISTRESS CURVY

Hi everyone! Sorry I've been somewhat absent from the blog lately, I've been totally stressed out now that school has kicked into full gear. Add that to family stuff, an upcoming art show to prepare for, my friend's impending wedding next week, etc, etc, and needless to say, things here have been B-U-S-Y. But window shopping during my off-time keeps me sane, and so I thought I'd share one of the brands I've been looking at recently, Little Mistress Curvy. I first saw them on ASOS while dress browsing for my friend's wedding and I really like what they have on offer. Definitely some dressier options for weddings and perfect for holiday parties. Here are my favorite picks from them!

I think the top two dresses would be perfect for the holidays, while the bottom two are definitely more "wedding" to me. Which Little Mistress Curvy dress is your favorite? If I could only choose one, I'd probably pick the cream and black skater dress and pair it with black opaque tights and great shoes (of course, duh). :)

FATSHION FACEOFF: SKULLS

Hi there! It's Wednesday again, and time for the Fatshion Faceoff! We have a theme challenge for you this week, chosen by Mouna, and she picked skulls. I don't own many skull pieces so I didn't have much to work with, but I thought a cool skull scarf would get the job done. Here's how I wore it!

sunnies: RayBan via Zappos
scarf (similar): McQueen via eBay
top (similar): H&M
wallet (similar): Forever21
shorts: Forever21+
sandals: Roxy viz Zappos

I realized as I was writing today's post that this is the third Fatshion Faceoff in a row where I've worn stripes of some sort. I guess I'm really digging them lately, lol! Do you wear a pattern or print more often than you realize? :)

Now we should go see how the other girls are rocking their skulls today! And then maybe enter my UncommonGoods giveaway here, yeah? :D

UNCOMMONGOODS SCARF REVIEW & GIVEAWAY

Hi everyone! I was recently contacted by UncommonGoods to see if I'd like to review a scarf from their collection. For those of you that may be unfamiliar with UncommonGoods, they are a company that sells unique items, from jewelry and accessories to housewares to kid things and tech accessories. Many of their items are handcrafted by independent artists and/or made from upcycled or recycled materials. As an artist myself, I really appreciate that UncommonGoods supports handmade, creative pieces. I can definitely see myself doing a bit of early holiday shopping with them, and might snag one of their handmade pieces here

sunnies: RayBan via Zappos
scarf: c/o UncommonGoods
top: Target
shorts: Forever21+
sandals: c/o Lane Bryant

For this review, I selected a Shibori Tie-Dye Scarf. I like the fact that it is hand-dyed, making each one unique, and that it utilizes a Japanese process of tie-dye called shibori. It’s definitely a unique twist on the hippie-esque tie-dye that I’m so used to seeing! It arrived quickly and was perfect out of the box. It’s made out of 100% cotton, so it’s light and perfect for spring/summer, but can also be layered for the fall. I think this scarf, or one of these options here, would be a great stocking stuffer for the holidays.

Overall, I think this is a pretty great scarf, and perfect for throwing on to punch up an outfit. In fact, I like this scarf so much that I asked UncommonGoods if I could have a second one to give away to one of y’all! This giveaway is open internationally to all my readers and all you have to do is use the Rafflecopter below to enter the giveaway by October 6. I’ll announce the winner here on the blog and email the winner as well. This scarf would be a great little present for yourself, or even a gift for a loved-one for the upcoming holidays. You can see more of their under-$50 gifts here.

**This giveaway is open internationally to all my readers ends October 6. The winner will be chosen at random by Rafflecopter. The prize was provided by UncommonGoods and will be shipped internationally by Dani. The scarf worn above was c/o UncommonGoods in exchange for review. The scarf the winner receives will be brand new, still in it's packaging.**

FATSHION FACEOFF: MINI SKIRT

Hi there! Today's Wednesday, and it's Fatshion Faceoff time! From here on out, the FF girls will be doing things a bit differently and posting every other week instead of weekly. We all have busy lives filled with work, school, family, wedding planning, etc, and it was getting a bit stressful to try and post a challenge every week. Anyway, here's my take on this week's challenge, picked by Olivia.. a mini skirt!

CURVY KATE "STAR IN A BRA" MODEL SEARCH

Hi there! Just a quick post today, but I really wanted to share something fun that I thought you might be interested in, the Curvy Kate Star in a Bra model search! If you're not familiar with Curvy Kate, they are a British lingerie company that believes in showing that beauty is found in all women, regardless of size or shape. They also have amazing bras and other lady-wear in gorgeous styles and colors in sizes for us D-cup and up girls. They're only carried in a few US stores (list here), but they do sell via Amazon, Bare Essentials, Simply Be, etc (online stores here). And now that I think about it, I actually kinda do need to get new bras soon.. hmm. Might have to remedy that! ;)

Anyway, Curvy Kate sent me an email letting me know that they are once again holding their model search competition, and this is what they have to say about it:

Championing fuller-busts, Curvy Kate are once again going across the pond, to North America for their annual Star in a Bra competition which seeks to find a naturally curvy woman to represent the lingerie brand. After seven successful competitions in the UK, Australia and North America, Star in a Bra will be open for entries for the second time in North America on 3rd September 2013. The search launched to shake up the modelling world and the ideas of beauty whilst giving the opportunity to all women to prove how good the curvy figure looks in lingerie.

A key event in any curvy girl's diary, the Star in a Bra search is run through the brand's Facebook page and encourages D plus, charismatic girls to enter the competition to be in with a chance of securing an incredible 12-month modelling contract with Curvy Kate. As well as becoming the next face and body of the award-winning brand, the winner will also receive a year’s supply of gorgeous Curvy Kate lingerie to treat her curves to.

With the public demanding the use of more realistic images in the media, the Star in a Bra competition champions the use of curvaceous role models and promotes a positive approach to body image, which every woman can relate to. Showing how Curvy Kate’s lingerie ranges look on a fuller bust and shapely frame gives a true representation of how the product fits and supports larger bust lines. The pioneering model search strives to celebrate healthy figures, a positive body image and diversity. There is no age, size or height limits which means anyone can enter as Curvy Kate believe a variety of looks should be shown in the media, for all women to relate to.

Curvy Kate's Marketing and PR Manager, Hannah Houston comments, "We truly believe that our customers should model our lingerie as these are the girls who will be buying it. Our model search is here to prove how gorgeous a shapely figure looks in lingerie. We have found a great mix of models since the launch in 2009. Every single one of the girls brings their own spark and personality to the brand and our customers can see exactly how our lingerie would look on a shape similar to them. We’re really looking forward to welcoming on board another gorgeous girl from North America!"

Last year’s North America winner, Krista Cousins 25, said The best thing about Curvy Kate’s Star in a Bra competition is that my body type is appreciated and not ridiculed as in some other modelling. Also it’s so cool to really represent and stand for something, I’m sort of a symbol in that way and it makes me feel proud!”

With over 3000 entrants in previous years of the competition the search looks set to see an even bigger response with the brand now being sold in specialty shops nationwide, including online retail giant
BareNecessities, FreshPair, HerRoom and Amazon.

Curvy Kate D - K cup lingerie is designed for fun, flirty girls with a fuller bust and desire for fashion. Utilising gorgeous, fashion-conscious designs and clever engineering, the brand offers variety and flattering, colourful styles normally only seen in smaller cup sizes.
Bras retail from $65 to $75.
You can enter the competition on the Curvy Kate Facebook page, but make sure you do so soon as the competition lasts only 4 weeks. Time's a tickin', girls! The winner will be announced later this fall on November 21.
