So as you probably can guess, I'm currently trying to figure out what to take with me on a last-minute trip back to Philly. There's family stuff that needs tending to, so we'll be gone for a while, and this is what I'm taking with me. Not much time to really plan outfits or anything, so I'm just grabbing my trusty favorites and hoping for the best! I won't be blogging outfits while I'm gone, but plan to post them on Instagram, so if you want to follow along, we can see how many non-boring outfits I'm able to create from these pretty basic pieces! Without further ado, below are my 20 essential items for an unexpected trip. (and undies and pjs and whatnot, but that stuff is boring and yeah, boring) :)
leopard // selfmade earrings // sandals // gift bracelet // flats
pink // necklace // feather // selfmade pendant // white

Also, I want to mention that the Stylebook app has been a complete lifesaver (like today as well as in the past), and I highly recommend it.* It's like Cher Horowitz's closet computer program, but for your phone or ipad. It's a bit of work to set up, as you take pictures of your clothes and add them into your "closet", but it is SO WORTH IT. (Pro tip: you can cheat by using the storefront's stock images cuz they look nicer and is usually easier.) Anyway, I use the app to create looks that I want to wear, keep track of ones I've already worn, and load inspiration pictures for outfit ideas I want to try. It even lets you create packing lists and check off the items as you pack them. This is totally not a sponsored post or anything, I've just been using this app since last Fall and can't rave about it enough. And I wanted to pass along the good outfit juju.

See you on the flip side, cool chicks! In the meantime, you can keep up with me over on Instagram. :)

Ground is still wet from just raining but its already super sunny and bright out. WTF TEXAS, lol! :P

sunnies: RayBan // top (similar, love this pink one!): Torrid // shorts: ASOS Curve
cuff: gift from Hanna // bag: Forever21 // shoes: Zappos

Summer in Texas is most likely officially here! I say it that way because the temps have definitely been increasing and for the last couple of days it has been simultaneously raining and sunny, muggy and cool/breezy. So weird, so annoying, totally unpredictable but totally expected seeing as this is what it's like here in the biggest state in the US (if you don't count Alaska, because who does? JK!)

Anyway, what I'm trying to say (but failing miserably at and offending all Alaskans in the process) is that summer + Texas = shorts on my body. It's also reasonable to warn you that you'll likely be seeing lots of variations of this outfit for the next few months. #summeruniformyall

In the meantime, if you need some shorts to get you through your summer too, definitely check out these ones from ASOS Curve. They're under $30, light and stretchy, are super comfortable, and come every kind of prints/patterns/colors/whatnot imaginable. (Except leopard. And sequins. C'mon ASOS, get with the program, don't you know me AT ALL?!) Anywhoooo, I like that they're a bit longer so I don't have to deal with chub rub and that they run true to size (in case you wanted to get some, too). I may already have a few more pairs headed my way. Shop 'em below!

1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7

I don't know why I love the combination of black with cobalt blue so dang much, but I do. Add in some silvery accents like a blinged out necklace and some comfy slides and I'm in love. Totally sparkly but casual at the same time is my jam, y'all.

By the way, can we just talk about these sandals for a sec? If you follow me on Instagram, you'll know that I already own them. I mean, yes, they are ugly but they're totally comfortable, and my boyfriend also hates them so that must mean they are super stylish and trendy, too, lol. They go up to size 13 and are currently on sale for only $15, which is about, oh you know, $75 bucks or so less than the legit Birkenstocks that we're starting to see everywhere. SO, if you get a pair of knock-off cheapies like I did (hey, no shame!), join me over on IG at #fakebirkfriends so we can hang out and wear our uglycomfys together. :)

I'm always keeping a look out for designer dupes, so I decided to share a few of my recent finds with y'all! Today's Look for Less is all about designer handbag dupes in timeless shapes and in colors I'm constantly reaching for in my own closet: white, black, and bright pink. While the designer bags below are definitely pricey, all the cheapie versions are $30 and under (not too shabby if I say so myself!). ;) You can shop the post below the picture!

Today's Friday Fave is all about Tumblr Twin Day with one of my favorite people, Cara from I Like Pretty Clothes! Can you believe it's been over a YEAR since we've done one of these outfit collabs?? Well, today was the day to fix that, so we decided to wear the orange leopard Asos Curve dress! I've had it in my closet for a while, and couldn't imagine a better way to debut it here on the blog. :) You can see our previous TT days here, here, and here

me and Cara, rocking the hell outta this dress
I added the bag because errands.

dress: Asos Curve // earrings (similar, similar): Jewelmint // necklace: Forever21
bag (similar): JustFab // leggings: Old Navy // flats: BCBG via DSW

I think what's so great about Cara and I doing our little Tumblr Twin Day thing is that we have somewhat different styles (me: modern casual; her: retro fabulous), but yet we're able to come up with looks that suit us both. Plus, she's a pretty great person in general and if you haven't checked out her Tumblr/blog yet, you are truly missing out. Especially if you love gorgeous dresses and burlesque-y things and petticoats and whatnot. She pretty much kills it on the daily with those. :)

sunnies: RayBan // top: gift from Hanna // dress (love this one with sleeves): Torrid
bag (lux one by MK): Forever21 // sandals (similar): Steve Madden via Zappos

It's definitely maxi dress season over here at my house. Granted, I'm the only one in my house who is aware of that, but that's ok. I'm happy to rock them even if my guys don't. :P I'm still loving this dress I bought from Torrid last summer in NYC, and since it survived the closet cleanout of the century, it's going back into rotation again this year. It's super comfy, not clingy, and striped (so of course I love it!). It is, however, strapless which is sometimes fine, and sometimes I'd rather be a little more covered up, especially on days like yesterday where I ran to the grocery store and the bank. Life in Texas is super casual, and not everyone here grasps the fabulousness of long, strapless dresses at 3 o'clock in the afternoon on a Wednesday. So I layered this amazing tee that Hanna sent me and tied a knot at the side to make things more interesting and less sister-wives. I can't tell you how much I adore this little top, too. Not only is it really soft, but it features the title of one of my favorite Beatles/Paul McCartney songs. Plus its a nice reminder lately to be ok with things not always being perfect, you know? I mean, if Sir Freaking Paul can let things be, so can I. Or I can at least try!

top (similar): Forever21+ // shorts (love these in white): Forever21+
bracelets (same in white, or diy your own!): Payless // shoesZappos

A simple look for a lazy day. Not exactly blog-worthy, but I'm enjoying having the time to post more frequently, so I thought I would share anyway. :) Hope you're having a great week!

1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 / 9

Ok, so *essential* is probably an overstatement, but y'all, I spotted these Essie polishes in my most recent Ulta catalog and fell in love! They've got me craving summer brights in a bad way, omg. I totally wouldn't say no to one of everything above. I mean, my birthday is coming up kinda soon.. just sayin'. Will you be rocking neon this summer?

It's been forever since I've done a Friday Faves post, and since I've been doing a lot of online window shopping lately, I thought I would share my favorite maxi dresses of the moment! I'm really digging them for our transition into summer and like that they are a no-brainer, all-in-one outfit, especially if you get a great printed one. Below are my top 10 faves that are perfect for summer.

Top Row: 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5
Bottom Row: 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5

I don't know about you, but I would be totally stoked to wear any of these all summer long! There's just something so easygoing about them, you know? Throw one on, add a pair of great sandals and maybe some hoop earrings, and you're good to go. Happy Friday! :)

earrings: selfmade // shirt (also in plus): Old Navy // bag (similar): Madewell

Double denim and double leopard? Definitely one of the better parts of my day! I don't know why that, when things are going super great in my life, it feels like something usually sneaks up and casts a dark cloud over me. Car stuff is being a major pain, I feel like I'm letting the people in my life down, and I don't feel like doing anything, much less making my jewelry. I dunno, I just feel like I'm slipping into a funk and I don't like it. Especially after everything was going so great and school is over and I got to see my family. I mean, I know I have things to look forward to in the upcoming months and I'm super appreciative of everything and everyone great I have in my life. I guess I'm just having a rough week emotionally and it doesn't really help that I'm beating myself up about it. And instead of hiding behind my keyboard and writing something bubbly to accompany today's outfit pictures, I thought I would be honest about how I'm really doing today. I feel like people don't do that enough anymore and all we see is how *fabulous* everyone is doing, you know? Anyway, I know you guys don't come here to read sob stories and hear me whine, so I will try to get my act together before the next post. Thank goodness it's almost the weekend! :)

I was just a little excited, can you tell? ;)

dress: New Look via Asos Curve
belt: Asos Curve // sandals: Zara

If you follow me on Instagram you already know this, but I totally graduated from college this past weekend with my BFA! I can't even express how beyond excited I am to be done with school, omg. It's been a looonnnggg five years with lots of sacrifice and lost sleep, but it was so worth it! I seriously couldn't have done it without the endless support and encouragement of my family and friends (and you!). Thanks for believing in my dream to be a college graduate, you guys, and taking this journey with me. :) Now on to new goals!

Having been a mom for several years, I thought it would be fun and helpful to do a quick guide of the stuff moms really want for Mother's Day. Below are my top picks!

wine glass // candle // lip balm // margarita machine
Alcohol is always appreciated, at least in my family. Specifically, margaritas and lots of them. But if your mom likes champagne or wine, you've got her covered with the picks above. If you're a new mom who is expecting a kid, a mojito flavored lip balm will keep you from feeling left of out of the party when you shouldn't be drinking.

sleep mask // nightgown // hydrating mask

Beauty rest (aka sleep) and lots of it. Make it happen for your mom with comfy stuff to sleep in and maybe even a luxurious hydrating mask. Some sort of sleep aid might also a good idea (whether its earplugs or meds) as it will help her nap through your Lord of the Rings Playstation wars (I'm speaking from experience, of course!).

leopard bow // pink sparkle // nude studs // classic black
Every mom needs practical shoes for chasing after kids, so why not get her an investment pair that will last? Whether she likes leopard, sparkles, or studs, you can't go wrong with the classy, timeless pairs above. And fabulous shoes last longer than flowers, so I personally think this is a great option for the mom in your life.

But really, all joking aside, I hope you moms out there have an amazing day with the people you love! I'm really lucky to have my mom in town this year and I'm even more lucky to have such a great kid of my own to spend the day with. Have a happy Mother's Day filled with laughs, love, and maybe even a sparkly handmade card (because those are the best!). <3

top (similar, similar): Torrid // shorts (similar): Forever21+
tank top (similar): Old Navy // shoes: Zappos

Ok, first: HAIR. It's so much shorter, y'all! Eek! I actually really love it though. I think it fits my personality so much better than when it was super long. I dunno, it's just more fun and wacky and kind of all over the place (but in a fabulous way of course), which if you know me in real life, is pretty much how I do's what I do. Like, the only way it could be better is if it was glittery and sparkly and curled itself. One can dream. There's also a really cool story about the how and why I finally cut it, but that is a tale for another day. Yep, I'm gonna roll like Netflix and make you wait for the rest. (Speaking of which, don'tcha just hate that about Netflix?? You get all up in a show and you do some awesome binge-watching and then, before you know what happened exactly, all the seasons run out and dumb Netflix doesn't even have the most current finished season, not to mention you're behind already and missing the actual-playing-season?! So then, just to catch up, you have to watch awful recordings on Youtube and it kinda takes the fun out of it all? GAH. Pretty much sums up my Walking Dead experience over Christmas break, lol!) Anyyyyyway, what were we talking about..??

Oh yeah: LEOPARD. SLIP-ONS. Been on my want list for several months now, and since I've been really good about clearing out 83%* of my wardrobe, shoes included, I thought I deserved a little treat. Especially because I got rid of all my worn-out and never-worn flats to further justify the purchase. Anyway, I tried the ones from Asos (twice!) and they were murder in all the ways that shoes can kill. Maybe you have them and they work for you, but for me, it was a no-go, so back they went (twice!). But I've been doing some digging and found these ones and decided to give 'em a shot. They only go up to a 10 (sad), but I find they run big, so you 10.5-11 babes might have some luck. (FYI, I'm usually a 9.5 in flats, got these in the 9, and there is a smidge of extra room.) Also, they're canvas which I've always found to stretch out a tad over time (I'm looking at you, Toms!). We shall see! But I really love them and they are super comfy right out of the box and I haven't taken them off since they arrived. YUP.
